Genuine emotions are whatโ€™s left when the masks come off. Theyโ€™re those intimate feelings that you donโ€™t show to just anyone. And thatโ€™s okay โ€” not everyone needs to see whatโ€™s behind the faรงade of daily life.

These moments of revelation donโ€™t only happen in a therapy session. They can occur when we connect with art โ€” be it anime, a movie, a music, or a book.

When a piece of art touches something deep within us, something profound happens. It might be anger, tears, or even an emotional breakdown โ€” an eruption of feelings that takes over our entire being.

Both the body and the mind respond (or the soul, if that term resonates more with you).

Such emotional outbursts often lead to a realization of deep-seated issues or a resolve to change something crucial in life.

Maybe you suddenly realize that you canโ€™t go on like this anymore. Or perhaps you uncover something unique and deeply personal that you never recognized before.

This is catharsis โ€” a cleansing through emotion. Itโ€™s a moment when you touch the essence of who you truly are.

Yes, you are unique. You might resemble someone else, but your combination of feelings, thoughts, desires, and fears is one of a kind. Thatโ€™s why itโ€™s so important to be aware of your true emotions and not to hide behind familiar roles.

Roles are convenient and comfortable. They give us a sense of security. But playing them for too long can make us forget who we really are. Even so, itโ€™s not always easy to open up and trust.

I understand this very well because Iโ€™ve gone through many personal challenges and transformations myself. There are things we never want to reveal to anyone.

But sometimes, to heal and move forward, you need to open that Pandoraโ€™s box and clear out everything thatโ€™s gnawing at you from the inside.
Otherwise, you might continue to feel that your life isnโ€™t going the way you want it to.

Being a psychologist isnโ€™t about dissecting peopleโ€™s secrets for public consumption.
I will never share my clientsโ€™ personal stories, but every time I witness someone take off their mask and find the strength to be themselves, itโ€™s a beautiful and moving experience.

Remember, you have the right to your genuine emotions.

And sometimes, itโ€™s these very emotions that lead to those moments of catharsis, after which life changes for the better.
